2016 Zhangye 100km 100Km Ultra-trail run Competition Rules 1 General rules 1.1 Aim 100 km, off-road trail running competitions are physically demanding—it is crucial that participants have a certain level of physical strength and endurance before undertaking this type of event. 100 km ultras have become extremely popular worldwide, and have won the interest of a substantial number of outdoor enthusiasts. A globally recognized set of rules and regulations regarding the 100 km ultra, however, has yet to be developed. In an effort to improve health nationwide and to promote the standardization of the development of outdoor sports, and as the sole regulator of this type of event in China, the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) hereby establishes the following competition rules: 1.1.1 The Competition Organizing Committee (COC) maintains the sole right to establish and enforce the competition regulations, as well as punish those who violate said regulations. In extenuating or special circumstances, the COC reserves the right to alter or amend these regulations. 1.1.2 The COC maintains the right to punish athletes in violation of the rules, or those who harm the interests of event, by issuing time penalties or disqualification. All rulings by the competition arbitration committee will be considered final and binding. 1.1.3 Time penalties may be added to the athlete's final score, or administered by holding the athlete at a point along the course for the appropriate amount of time. 1.2 Purpose The Chinese Mountaineering Association establishes these rules with the following goals: 1.2.1 To create a fair and just sporting environment in which athletes can perform to the best of their abilities in an ethical manner 1.2.2 To provide measures to increase safety and protection 1.2.3 To punish athletes or teams who gain advantages through illicit means 2 Competition events and groups 2.1 Men's 100 km group; must be 18 to 50 years of age 2.2 Women's 100 km group; must be 18 to 50 years of age 2.3 Men's 50 km group; must be 18 to 60 years of age 2.4 Women's 50 km group; must be 18 to 60 years of age 3 Athlete behavior 3.1 General rules 3.1.1 At all times, uphold and abide by ethical sporting norms. 3.1.2 Take responsibility for the safety of themselves and others. 3.1.3 Obey local traffic laws and the commands of race officials and other staff. 3.1.4 Be polite and respectful when dealing with other athletes, marshals, officials, volunteers and spectators. 3.1.5 Do not use uncivilized language. 3.1.6 If necessary, course marshals and other staff may order an athlete or team to immediately withdraw from the race. 3.1.7 The commercial activities of athletes must not interfere with the competition or the safety of other competitors. 3.1.8 If an athlete withdraws from the competition, it is his duty to inform a race official or other staff. 3.1.9 Athletes must wear shoes and a shirt at all times. No inappropriate clothing is permitted. 3.1.10 Understand the competition rules issued by the CMA. 3.1.11 All athletes and team leaders must obey all national laws 3.2 Stimulants The CMA forbids the use of all stimulants outlawed by the IAAF, UCI and ITU. 3.3 Physical condition 100 km ultras are extremely challenging and carry a high risk. This type of competition places relatively heavy demands on the body, and thus requires that athletes have a solid base of running experience before undertaking the event. People with the following physical conditions may not participate: Congenital or rheumatic heart disease Hypertension or cerebral vascular disease Myocarditis or other types of heart disease Coronary artery disease or serious arrhythmia Diabetes combined with high or low blood sugar Any condition rendering the athlete unfit for strenuous exercise 3.4 Participation qualifications 3.4.1 Athletes in the 100 km group must be at least 18 and not more than 50 years of age. 3.4.2 Athletes in the 50 km group must be at least 18 and not more than 60 years of age. 3.4.3 Athletes must be in good physical health, and must not suffer from hypertension, heart disease or any other condition preventing intense physical exercise. At registration, participants must show a medical document from the last six months verifying their ability to participate. Those without this medical document will not be registered. 3.4.4 Participants in the 100 km group must have completed at least two outdoor challenges held by the CMA, full-length marathons or other competitions of similar length and nature within the last three years. Participants in the 50 km group must have completed at least one outdoor challenge held by the CMA, a full-length marathon or other competition of similar length and nature within the last year. 3.4.5 Athletes must show valid proof of identification and provide a photocopy at time of registration. 3.4.6 Participants must arrange their own accident insurance for the duration of the event. 3.4.7 Participants must sign a declaration of responsibility. 3.4.8 Athletes barred from competition by any domestic or foreign body are not allowed to participate in events held or approved by the CMA. 4 Results and timing 4.1 This competition uses an electronic timing chip system to record race results. Participants will collect their timing chip at registration, for which they will give a 500 RMB deposit. This deposit will be returned at the conclusion of the event. 4.2 Before the start of the race, a marshal will complete two check-ins, at which contestants must swipe their timing chip. 4.3 Athletes must carry their timing chip and track device at all times. There are a certain number of card-swiping checkpoints along the course (marked on the course map) which must be crossed consecutively and in the proper order. 4.4 Rankings will be compiled according to the times logged by the electronic timing chip system. 4.5 If an athlete fails to successfully swipe his timing chip at a designated checkpoint, officials will attempt to verify the facts surrounding the incident. If it is found that the athlete indeed did not swipe their chip or cross the designated checkpoint, a time penalty or disqualification may be issued. 4.6 Athletes who do not carry the timing chip according to the regulations or who fail to swipe their chip at the finish line will not receive an official result. 4.7 After verification by officials and race marshals, race results will be publically posted. Athletes have thirty minutes from this point to register objections with the organizing committee. 5 Starting and finishing line 5.1 For all groups, the starting line are in the same location.the finishing line are different location. 5.2 The first check-in will be conducted twenty minutes before the start of the race. The second and final check-in will be conducted ten minutes before the start of the race. 5.3 Race start times: Men's and women's 100 km group: 6:00 am 23rd July Men's and women's 50 km group: 9:00 am 23rd July Fun run group: 9:20 am 18th July 5.4 Specially invited athletes will receive places at the front of the starting area. 5.5 The starting/finishing area is equipped with bag deposit facilities. Athletes should place their goods in a bag with their race number affixed to the outside. Valuables should not be deposited. 5.6 Athletes may use the competition's bag-drop services for placing supplies along the course. Athletes should place their resupply goods in bags labeled with their race bib number; these bags will be dropped at the CP3 (40 km mark) and CP6 (71km mark), respectively. 5.7 The starting/finishing area is equipped with a sign-in station, a resupply station, a medical station and toilet facilities. 6 Equipment Note: Equipment listed in italics will be provided by the organizing committee. 6.1 Mandatory race equipment 100km Group?The all equipment have to carry in all time?? If an athlete's number bib is not attached properly or is obscured or altered in any way, he may be disqualified and his time will not be recorded. All athletes must write their personal information in pen on the back of their number bib. To ensure rapid response in case of emergency, this information should include the participant's name as well as the name and contact information of their emergency contact. Please ensure the complete visibility of the number bib. 6.3 Recommended equipment 6.2.1 Electrolyte drink, water and energy supplies 6.2.2 Sunblock, sun hat, sunglasses, lubricant 7 Course route and closing times 7.1 Course introduction 7.1.1 For both the 100 km and 50 km courses, over 85% of the route is on off-road trails. The 50 km course has an accumulated elevation gain of approximately 2,268 meters; the 100 km course has an accumulated elevation gain of over 4,909 meters. 7.1.2 The course is marked with red ribbons and arrows; athletes must complete the course according to the markings. It is forbidden to knowingly leave the marked course. If an athlete is found taking shortcuts, they will be disqualified. 7.1.3 As seen on the course map, the course has a certain number of checkpoints and supply points. Athletes must cross these checkpoints in the proper order, swiping their timing chip at each one. 7.1.4 Supply points provide: 100km group provide hot water, coffee, supper noodle, mineral water, bananas, chocolate and electrolyte drinks at CP3 CP4 CP6 CP8 and finish. Only water provide at CP1 CP2 CP7 CP9 CP10. NOT any supply at start and CP5. 50km group provide hot water, coffee, supper noodle, mineral water, bananas, chocolate and electrolyte drinks at CP3 and finish. Only water provide at CP1 CP2 CP4. If an athlete is for any reason unable to complete the race they should proceed to the nearest checkpoint or supply station and await transport back to the finish line. 8.2 If an athlete is injured and cannot move, they should immediately withdraw from the race, call the number for emergency assistance and wait for aid in a visible location. 9 Awards and prizes The first twelve competitors in each group will be awarded prize money. The protest will be dealt with before the posting of competition results. 10.2 Protests concerning the race course Protests concerning course discrepancies or safety issues must be given in written form to the arbitration committee at least 24 hours before the race. 10.3 Athlete protests Protests brought up by athletes or race officials should be given to the head race official within 15 minutes of completing the race. 10.4 Protests concerning time keeping Protests concerning timing errors should be given within 30 minutes of the posting of unofficial race results. 10.5 Protests concerning equipment Protests concerning another athlete's (lack of) equipment should be given in written form to the head race official within 15 minutes of completing the race. 10.6 Protest and appeal form A 500 RMB protest fee must be handed over with the protest and appeal form. If the protest is successful, the fee will be returned. Forms may be picked up from the head official's station; its contents include: a) Circumstances of the violation b) Place and time of the violation c) Person(s) responsible for the violation d) Relevant descriptions and explanations; may include sketches e) Names and signatures of witnesses 10.7 Protest procedures 10.7.1 General rules The protest should adhere to the following procedures: a) The person submitting the protest should fill out and sign the protest and appeal form, then give the form to the arbitrator or head official within the time frames specified above. b) The relevant athletes and officials will be informed of the protest before the hearing. c) The relevant athletes and officials will be notified of the time and place of the arbitration committee's meeting. d) If any party is absent from the hearing, the arbitration committee reserves the right to issue judgment in their absence. e) With the approval of the head of the arbitration committee, a representative of the plaintiff or defendant may attend the hearing in their stead. f) The hearing will not be public. g) The head of the arbitration committee will read aloud the protest and appeal form. h) Sufficient time will be given for the plaintiff and defendant to state their views. i) Witnesses from each party will be given three minutes each to supply their testimony. j) The arbitration committee will take into account the testimonies of all parties before issuing judgment. k) Judgment will be announced immediately and given in written form to the relevant parties. 10.7.2 Protest time limits Protests submitted by athletes should be handed over within thirty minutes of completing the race. Appeals should be submitted within fifteen minutes of completing the race or the posting of a notice of violation, whichever is later. END
